The European Union (EU) has the internet in its sights and does not look like it is going to give in easily when it comes to net neutrality.
Currently there is a debate going on that should decide the EU’s position on this matter.
This concerns internet service providers who control the speed of the internet depending on the type of application being used.
For example if an ISP does not like its customers using the BBC iPlayer it could throttle the speed to make it run slower.
On the other hand, if the same ISP favoured another similar service then, in theory, it could speed the service up.
The EU gave ISPs the power to do this when they voted in May, however these latest debates are on the wider issues that can occur with such power.
