A new fibre optic trial is to take place in the new year.
BT Openreach has confirmed that work is scheduled to begin on a fibre to the premises (FTTP) network.
Two sites have been selected for the trial and they are Bradwell Abbey in Milton Keynes and Highams Park in London.
The work is expected to be completed by March 2010.
The selected areas are both brownfield sites and once the network has been installed, it should be capable of delivering a broadband connection speed of up to 100 Mbps to around twenty thousand homes in each area.
BT appears to be experimenting with next generation broadband and, as of yet, has not decided which route to follow, therefore the cost of rolling our super fast broadband around the UK is not going to be known until BT understands the work involved.
