Is the BBC adding social media to its websites?

There seems to be some confusion around the BBC’s proposed revamp of its websites and the iPlayer.

This isn’t expected to take place until March, but there does seem to be something going on.

It started with a report in the Guardian that a source at the BBC had confirmed that the BBC websites will be getting a new look in March, and will be incorporating more social media features.

The report also said that the broadcaster is working on an Facebook application for the iPlayer.

This all sounds fine and in line with current market trends, but the problem is that, according to the Telegraph, this is not true and there are no BBC social media plans.

According to the BBC, any investment in the BBC Online services is tightly controlled and would need to be assessed before the go ahead is given.
