Eutelsat announces 100th HDTV Channel

Eutelsat Communications now broadcasts 100 HDTV channels through its video satellites.

SKY Italia’s Sky Sport 1HD channel had the distinction of becoming Eutelsat’s 100th high-definition channel.

Eutelsat’s Commercial Director, Olivier Millies-Lacroix, said: “We believe that the consumer expectation for a first-class HD experience and the suitability of our satellites for distributing HD content both Direct-to-Home and to cable, IP and DTT networks are guarantees of a long-term market for Eutelsat and the satellite industry.”

Paris-based Eutelsat broadcasts 42% of the 243 HD satellite channel streams in Europe and the Middle East via its satellites.

Eutelsat also announced a carriage deal with i-concerts, a dedicated live music channel.

The deal will allow operators to offer i-concerts as part of an HDTV package.

Eutelsat will carry the channel on its Eurobird 9A satellite, which covers Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.
