The Open IPTV Forum (OIPF) has published the Profiles specification for its Release 1 Solution, along with a revision (Version 1.1) of its Release 1 IPTV Solution specification, which was published in January 2009.
As with all OIPF specifications, the latest spec is available for download from the Forum website www.oipf.tv.
The latest specification is for an end-to-end platform for the deployment of the set of Release 1 IPTV Services.
The platform will allow any consumer end-device to access enriched and personalised IPTV services either in a managed or a non-managed network, as long as the device complies to OIPF standards.
The Profiles specification includes instructions for implementing over-the-top services that do not utilise any terminal management features, for the delivery of on-demand and interactive services.
It also adds the Baseline Management Profile which supports scheduled and streamed content, and the Enhanced Managed Profile, which adds native support for advanced converged services and networks.
Last month the Open IPTV Forum announced that SmartLabs, Cisco, and Bouygues had joined the forum, to help develop open specifications for IPTV based around current technologies and open standards.
