The German national airline carrier, Lufthansa, has selected Panasonic Avionics to provide its passengers with broadband internet services while travelling.
The system known as FlyNet will be provided at first on all long haul aircraft.
It will offer a wide range of applications, including voice, data, and internet access for the passengers.
The crew will be able to use the system to monitor and transmit all sorts of data related to the operation of the aircraft, flights and other matters in real time, as the service offers a connection speed of up to 50 Mbps.
At the same time, passengers will be able to use their own mobile phones to make calls, send and receive text messages and access the facilities available on the phone while in flight.
