Freeview operator, Digital UK, has been apologising to viewers in Devon, who found that after the well publicised digital retune, they were receiving their broadcasts from Wales and therefore they were in Welsh.
It turns out the Welsh transmitter actually broadcasts on a similar frequency to the one in Ilframcombe, Devon, but the Welsh signal is more powerful and so naturally this is the one that came up on the viewers’ TVs in Devon.
This is not a unique situation as it can happen almost anywhere, but the difference in this case was the language issue.
According to Digital UK, this problem existed before the retune and all viewers have to do is contact the Freeview helpline for assistance.
