The BBC will now be overseeing worldwide PR for the commercial side of the organisation, BBC Worldwide.
It will be difficult for the BBC to remain neutral, as there is the public service side of the organisation that is funded by the TV Licence fee and then there is the BBC Worldwide, which is effectively a commercial business selling content and services to international customers.
It will be interesting to see how the BBC manages to keep everything separate, especially as there will be one head, Ed Williams, the Director of Communications.
At the same time, the corporation will be creating a new marketing communications division, which will be under the watch of BBC Vision’s Director of Communications, Paul Almond.
It all still seems to be very complicated.
