Voxbone’s iNum supports Skype HD calls

Voxbone has added support for HD calls between VoIP networks and Skype, to its iNum service.

The upgrade brings in-the-room sound quality to millions more VoIP users.

iNum is Voxbone’s geographically-independent number service.

It is prefaced with the 883 code, which refers to the Internet in the same way that the 44 code refers to the UK.

Calls to iNum numbers are routed to Voxbone, which delivers them over IP, allowing users to benefit from significant cost savings.

The latest upgrade means that Voxbone will now transcode between Skype’s super-wideband SILK codec and the widely deployed HD codec, G.722.

Tim Behrsin, Voxbone’s business development manager for iNum, said: “With iNum supplying the needed uniform identifier across all providers, our support for Skype’s SILK codec kicks high-definition voice into higher gear.

“Suddenly, those among Skype’s 480 million registered users who have the latest version of Skype for Windows or Mac* can experience HD quality not only in conversations with one another, but also when they call most of the world’s other HD-capable endpoints”.

Voxbone also recently announced an interconnection deal with FonoSIP.com, a free Voip provider, allowing FonoSIP’s users to benefit from more HD voice calls.
