BBC warning over insecure hotspots

The BBC has warned consumers of the dangers of using Wi-Fi hotspots because of the risk of them being attacked by hackers.

According to the computer security firm Garlik, there has been a massive increase in the amount of takeover frauds taking place. These are commonly known as ID Fraud.

The main providers of Wi-Fi in the UK are BT, The Cloud and T Mobile, and as highlighted on the consumer programme Watchdog there has been an increase of over two hundred per cent in hacking attacks, and all three of these operators are vulnerable.

The programme even went so far as to actually hack into Wi-Fi users’ equipment, to show how easy it would be for a professional hacker to get into an individual’s computer and steal personal information without the user knowing anything about it.
