Google has released a new tool that could allow householders to keep an eye on their domestic power usage.
The tool has been named the Google Powermeter and it works quite simply by reading data fed to it from a standard power meter through an add on clip.
For those households that have the new smart meters fitted, the information can be taken directly and presented to the householder on the iGoogle page.
According to the CEO of AlertMe Energy, the powermeter will be sold to householders in the UK.
It is estimated that over a quarter of the power use in the UK is for domestic use.
Being able to monitor energy use will allow the householder to see exactly where heavy use occurs and make adjustments to save power and money.
