Mobile broadband could overtake fixed line by 2011
by David Allen

The growth of mobile broadband has been unprecedented, in fact while broadband appears to be struggling under the strain of user demand, it seems that consumers will be demanding even more from the service in years to come.
According to a report about to be published by mobileSQUARED, in 2011 mobile broadband connections will overtake fixed line broadband connections in the UK.
Figures are worked out by estimating the number of 3G enabled devices to be 36.3 million, and adding to this the number of mobile broadband modems, which is around 6.4 million, giving a total of 42.7 million mobile broadband connections in 2011.
It is estimated that fixed line broadband connections will reach just 42.5 million by 2011.
This figure is not likely to grow much more, but 3G usage will grow as this technology becomes widely available in more devices.
