Xbox fans turning to PS3?

Darren Allan

A new report suggests that the buyers of imminent big name multi-format sequels may be shifting ground from the Xbox to PS3, amongst those who own both consoles.

The research from OTX (highlighted by Gamasutra) says that major releases such as Modern Warfare 2 and Assassin’s Creed 2 show a trend away from the X360, towards the PS3.

15% of those who are planning to buy Assassin’s Creed 2 on the PS3 own the original game on the X360, whereas just 7% are “defecting” the other way around, from the PS3 original to the X360 for the sequel.

Apparently the figures tell much the same story for Modern Warfare 2, although the exact details weren’t specified.

Is this a trend that’s set to escalate? Certainly when it comes to the online play, the fact that the PS3 makes no charge (yet, anyway) may be a factor here.

Yeah, I have both and I generally prefer PS3 but the key reasons are nothing to do with gaming power. I use the PS3 as a media centre and for bluray and my TV prefers HDMI which my 1st generation 360 doesn’t have. The 360 is still a better gaming platform and generally smoother and more stable than the PS3.

I like the pic of the PS3 at the top of the article. Way to undermine your credibility before the first paragraph has been read.

    That is all…
