Barnsley launches broadband initiative

Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council has been commended by the UK’s digital inclusion champion, Martha Lane Fox, on its work to help local people get access to digital information.

The council in Barnsley is one of the leading local authorities to get behind the drive to encourage more people to go online, whether they do this at home or at one of the centres provided by the council.

According to Martha Lane Fox, the city has embraced new technology and has launched several initiatives to encourage people that have never been able to use new technology for one reason of another.

It is estimated that around twenty five of the population do use the internet and for some this is by choice, while for others it is down to circumstances.

These initiatives are there to show everyone the benefits of being online.
