BSkyB feels there is no need for Canvas

While the BBC has been happy to demonstrate how good the new Project Canvas platform could be, there are signals that other broadcasters are attempting to upset the Canvas Project before it has even been given a chance to run.

As the BBC demonstrated how the Olympics could be broadcast, satellite broadcaster BSkyB pointed out that such a service is not required as there will always internet-based TV services coming and going.

Even cable TV provider Virgin Media had to agree with its arch rival and firm’s commercial director, Griff Parry, admitted that the prospect of Project Canvas being launched is a “bit scary”.

The fate of Project Canvas is still in the hands of the BBC Trust, and the answer could be available soon.
