It looks as if the government could force through the broadband tax, to make sure that it goes through the parliamentary system before the next general election.
According to the communications minister, Stephen Timms, the 50p tax placed on each phone line could be introduced in the government’s finance bill that will be set in motion before the election, in May or June next year.
It would appear that the government is fixed in its belief that the broadband tax will help the rollout of next generation broadband and also the provision of broadband services to every home in the UK.
The industry has mixed feelings on the broadband tax; some feel it is a good idea, while other such as the Carphone Warehouse feels that some users will be priced out of the market.
