STV takes legal action against ITV

STV has taken out a serious legal challenge against ITV over the way that the channel sells on the TV content rights to other broadcasters.

The heart of the legal challenge is a claim for £12 million in damages over STV content that has been sold on to video-on-demand providers such as BT and Virgin Media.

However, this is just one of many battles that STV and ITV are in the middle of, as currently ITV is suing STV for £38 million.

The legal action comes from when ITV changed its schedules for some programmes like The Bill and because STV stopped showing some of ITV’s top shows such as, Lewis and Midsomer Murders.

In another claim, STV is suing ITV for £35 million.

This is said to be for advertising underpayments from ITV.
