BT Chairman jumps ahead of neighbours in broadband trial
Residents of rural broadband not-spot Hambleden aren’t too pleased as the recently moved-in BT Chairman has snagged a trial broadband line.
According to a report in The Telegraph, some locals have been waiting five years for the service, whereas Sir Michael Rake has only been living there for about a year.
He was given a Broadband Enabling Technology (BET) trial line with a capacity of 1Mbps. Not exactly screamingly fast, but better than a 56K modem.
One Hambleden resident, Gary Ashworth, complained that it looked like the chairman of BT was being given preferential treatment over long-serving customers.
However, BT responded by saying it was perfectly normal for trials to be conducted using company staff.
