Politics will decide the future of broadband

It seems that it is not really going to make much difference what the government plans when it comes to the broadband network because of the pending General Election, due to take place in May or June next year.

According to the chief executive of the Broadband Stakeholder Group (BSG), Anthony Walker, the two main political parties are split on how to go about upgrading the broadband network.

While the Labour Party is proposing a broadband tax to raise funds to go towards the expansion programme, the Conservative Party is in favour of leaving the expansion to market forces, which could mean many areas left out of the loop.

Therefore, it seems that currently not much will be done to bring in those areas without broadband, and it will be down to the result of the General Election as to what happens next.
