Freeview begins HD Tests

Freeview in HD has gone live in the UK, but as no Freeview HD set top boxes are on the market at the moment, no viewers will be able to experience the wonderful world of high definition television.

There are in fact tests for the Freeview HD service taking place in London and Manchester but these transmitters already cover around twenty two per cent of the UK population.

The HD switch-on makes the UK the only country in the world to operate to the DVB T2 standard, which is good for morale but not good for viewers, as most of the manufacturers are not producing DVB T2 equipment.

But it will not be long before Freeview HD set top boxes are on sale.

It has been estimated that Freeview HD will be widely available before the middle of next year!

No problem, the market will adapt to the situation, i.e. hungry viewers.
