Broadband causes bandwidth rage

Forget road rage. That’s so nineties. The new strain of impatience for the 21st Century doesn’t affect drivers.

It’s the veins on the forehead’s of computer users which are popping due to bandwidth rage.

This is, quite simply, the phenomenon of waiting for a web page to load, and then losing your temper when it takes too long.

The latest piece of research commissioned by ISP TalkTalk found that 70% of respondents confessed to “losing it” while waiting longer than one minute for a site to load.

Unsurprisingly, the survey data also showed that young folks are less patient than their elders.

A third of 18 to 24-year-olds expected to wait for a maximum of 10 seconds for a page to appear, whereas only 10% of over 65s fell into that bracket.

In fact, 64% of pensioners were happy to wait a minute for a page to load. Well, it’s either that or watch Deal or No Deal we guess.

TalkTalk’s Mark Schmid commented: “We think people are inevitably more demanding than they used to be and they expect the products and services they buy to be faster and more convenient.”
