Intel shelves Larrabee graphics technology

Darren Allan

Intel has decided to halt work on the consumer part of its Larrabee graphics project.

This means you won’t be having a major rival to Nvidia or AMD to slot into your PC any time soon.

Larrabee powered graphics cards were supposed to be launching next year, but Intel hit a number of problems with the scheme.

Reports indicate that the project just wasn’t progressing as fast as Intel needed it to.

Also, as we reported back in September, Larrabee got a lacklustre reception when demonstrated at the Intel Developer Forum 2009 in San Francisco.

Larrabee is now set to become a software development platform.
