The #uksnow phenomenon is back again, since it made a splash – well, a flurry more like – last winter.
Twitter users can tweet their postcode and levels of snow with the hashtag #uksnow. They rate how much it’s snowing as a number out of ten.
So for example, “SK7 3/10” would mean there’s light snow around the Stockport area. 7/10 would be heavy snow. And 10/10 would mean a new ice age has dawned.
When we looked this morning, ten reports were coming in every minute. All these results are then collated on Ben Marsh’s tracking map, which is here: http://uksnow.benmarsh.co.uk
This shows the reports as white dots, so users can see where any heavy snowing is occurring and plan their travel accordingly.
Assuming the folks doing the snow tweeting aren’t lying to wind people up. Perish the thought.
