HDMI 1.4 will support 3D TV

As 3D HDTV prepares to take the world of home entertainment to a different level, the technology needed to bring it all together is being developed.

This requires a massive coordination of businesses and suppliers to provide components for the equipment, such as the high definition multimedia interface (HDMI), which is what is used to connect HD enabled equipment to a standard television.

The 1.4 spec HDMI will allow the 3D content from games consoles and set top boxes to connect to the television and provide the much awaited 3D HDTV service.

The HDMI consortium is already working on the addition of HDMI 1.4 spec, which is similar to the current 1.3 spec but HDMI 1.3 is unable to provide the connection to TV sets.
