Sky Sports Xtra to become Sky Sports 4

To keep order on the Sky TV electronic programme guide the satellite broadcaster is planning a few a changes, including re-branding the sports channel, Sky Sports Xtra.

This channel has been out of synch with the other sports channels offered by Sky and will be renamed ‘Sky Sports 4′ to bring it into line with the other three channels, although there is no word on an HD version.

The changes will take effect from the 6th January 2010.

Amazingly this rebranding was first mentioned back in February 2007 and it has taken almost three years for it to take place.

Speculation grows that the broadcaster will launch Sky Sports 4 HD too, as this will fall in line with the other channels.
