BBC resigned to Worldwide sale

There comes a point where the inevitable happens and government wants to sell all or part of its commercial division, BBC Worldwide, a business that brought in just under £70 million for the corporation last year.

The government wants to see the separation of the BBC and the commercial division, and now it seems that even the Director General of the BBC, Mark Thompson, is resigned to the fact that some sort of sale will take place.

The best that the BBC can hope for is that the government agrees to a partial sell off and that it is able to keep a controlling interest in the division, as the income from BBCW helps keep the cost of the TV Licence down.
