Exterity's IPTV System to distribute Race to Dubai content

Exterity, the Building IPTV specialist, today announces that its innovative IPTV solution has been adopted by The European Tour to distribute High Definition content at the majority of events on The 2010 Race to Dubai on The European Tour international schedule.

The bespoke, real-time production system, which was used at last year’s Open Championship at Turnburry and Barclays Scottish Open at Loch Lomond, combines live information from broadcasters, pre-recorded material and highlights with real time graphics and scores updated from the event results system.

The signal is then distributed over a fibre network, which not only significantly enhances image quality on each of the 100 High Definition (HD) TVs and large format video screens installed in key areas around each golf course, but also makes content easier to manage.

Where required, the network is also extended to include the clubhouse and/or on-course hotels to reach an even greater number of attendees at each event.

The system is being delivered by Creative Technology, one of the world’s leading suppliers of Audio Visual and technical staging services, and incorporates a range of Exterity’s HD and SD AvediaStream Encoders, AvediaStream TVgateways and HD Receivers.

The Exterity IPTV system was also recently used at the ATP Masters tennis tournament that took place at the O2 Arena during November.

Thanks to the High Definition images and information distributed throughout the arena, the thousands of guests, journalists and general public attending still felt like they were courtside wherever they were within the complex.

“The improved visual experience that attendees of The European Tour and ATP Masters events can now enjoy further demonstrates the benefits that IPTV can deliver to major sporting events,” says Colin Farquhar, CEO of Exterity.

“Events at such large venues require a substantial quantity of cabling to be installed and standard analogue signals quickly deteriorate as they travel over the long distances required.

“By switching to Exterity’s IPTV solution, the event crews at both The European Tour and ATP Masters tournaments have far greater control on what content is delivered and where, while ensuring that visitors are able to enjoy a wealth of information delivered at the highest possible quality from anywhere on the event site.

“Furthermore, the value of IPTV can be extended to incorporate features such as interactivity and Video on-Demand, creating a richer viewing experience for attendees of major events around the world.

“As such, we are confident that IPTV will play an even greater role at such events in the years to come.”
