The home electronics sector has been boosted by the sale of over ten million television sets over the past year.
The record sales figure has been put down to the digital switchover and the increase in other home entertainment equipment such as games consoles and Blu-ray DVD players.
According to the report compiled by GfK, the larger screen television is one of the only products in the retail sector that has maintained a steady flow of sales, despite the world’s economies suffering from one of the worst recessions for some time.
In fact it was also reported in the Daily Telegraph, that over the last five years around thirty two million flat screen televisions have been sold in the UK, proving that this sector has defied the recession.
