MPs claim that the BBC is not British enough

According to a report by MPs from the Northern Ireland Affairs Committee, the BBC has been neglecting its duties as public service broadcaster by ignoring the people of Northern Ireland.

In fact the report found that TV producers based in Northern Ireland are more likely to get work commissioned in LA or New York than in London.

It seems that even when something is commissioned, the programme would normally be associated with the “Troubles” and hardly ever focuses on current or cultural life in the region.

According to the regulator Ofcom, Northern Ireland has the lowest average programming spend per person in the UK at just £3.85, whereas the actual UK average spend per person in the UK is £32.
