Next gen Apple TV could be on the way

Companies like Apple are always creating new devices that require a patent to protect them from being copied.

According to a recent submission to the Patents office, it was noticed that there was a file for a remote control that can identify different light sources.

This fuels rumours that Apple TV is about to get some serious upgrades.

The patent covers a remote control similar to that of the Wii controller, which is interesting on its own.

But this technology, combined with 3D and magnetic compass patents, means that the company could easily be working on a device capable of lifting the old Apple TV onto a more successful footing to compete with the all the other platforms heading for the marketplace.

The only thing wrong with AppleTV is the service & that’s about to change. People buy & rent movies but only really ‘rent’ TV shows (with a few exceptions). Give us TV show rentals and a decent promotional viewer and I’d cancel Sky tomorrow.
