Training for the Olympics takes perfect timing, but nature is an outside influence that can mess up some of the best made plans.
Nature will have an effect on the 2012 London Olympics as, despite all the money spent on creating new facilities and infrastructure, it seems that the games will coincide with a period of solar flare activity.
The sun is going through a cycle which will peak during 2012, following the build up of sun spots.
A solar flare could burst through the surface causing a magnetic storm and as this passes the earth, communication satellites would be affected, causing a potential television blackout during the Olympic Games.
A solar storm takes around two days to reach earth.
Satellites can be protected by being shut down but that could cause other issues.
I suppose the upside to this is that the media will have to actually be inventive to come up with a reason as to why we should blame the government for a solar flare blakcout.
The downside, is the months that I will have to listen to people calling for a public enquiries an head to get the chop.
