DTG switches sides on BBC Canvas

by David Allen

It was not that long ago when the Digital TV Group looked as if it was backing the multi channel video on demand (VoD) service Project Canvas.

But now it seems that the industry body, which represents companies like BSkyB, Dixons, Freeview, Pace and Samsung, is switching sides and is opposing the launch of Project Canvas because it is not taking the whole industry into consideration.

Project Canvas will, if approved, provide VoD from all of the terrestrial broadcasters and has the backing of the likes of BT and The Carphone Warehouse.

According to the DTG, Project Canvas has failed to listen to all of the industry, concerns that are based on the idea that the project will not be able to deliver a compatible industry wide platform to work from.
