Ocean Blue suggest one digital TV software solution for all standards
by Janet Harris

Digital TV software specialist Ocean Blue Software, has released a white paper that explores the feasibility of a single software stack for the European digital TV market, encompassing new standards HbbTV and Canvas amongst others.
The paper explains the technical issues surrounding different digital TV software standards, such as MHEG-5, Adobe Flash Lite, DVB and HTML5, and the complexities involved in combining them into a single software stack.
“The European digital TV market is very fragmented, with multiple broadcast platforms and software standards across countries,” explains Ocean Blue’s CEO Ken Helps.
“This presents a big problem for set top box and TV manufacturers striving for economies of scale.
“The ability to produce one digital TV receiver for the European marketplace as a whole will solve these problems.”
With over 100 million digital TV households in Europe, a single, interoperable software stack will save CE vendors development costs and time to market.
The white paper is available to download, free of charge, from Ocean Blue’s website
