Latens CAS-5 for DTH and IPTV

Software-based conditional access and middleware provider Latens says its new CAS-5 product can supply satellite DTH as well as cable, IPTV, digital terrestrial and hybrid pay-TV transmissions.

Latens says CAS-5 will happily operate across all these delivery systems. “Latens CAS dynamically detects how Set Top Boxes (STBs) are connected to the CAS and automatically allocates the entitlements/permissions to it,” says a statement.

“This means that when an operator wishes to expand to other network types, or from one way to return path, they will not have to invest in a new CAS system. Latens software-only CAS protects a one-way cable or DTH network and offers expansion and return path to an IPTV offering without the need to making changes in the head end or in the STB.”

Latens says that a software CAS enables the operator to offer security across the home on multiple devices: home gateways, fully-featured 2-way STBs, low cost STBs or consumer devices such as PCs and mobile devices. Latens CAS 5 is flexible, dynamically upgradeable and easier to manage. “It allows the operator to protect OTT services across multiple devices providing a future-proofed content and revenue protection solution.”

At the head end, Latens says the CAS is fully DVB Simulcrypt compliant allowing the operator to run Latens CAS with another DVB Simulcrypt compliant CAS. “In the STB, Latens CAS 5 supports Dual CAS mode which allows the operator to have greater flexibility in the management of their operations. Dual CAS mode means that operators can have two CAS on one STB.

The operator will no longer be locked into one vendor – they will no longer need to have STBs tied to a single CAS. With Dual CAS, the operator controls the STB, reduces his costs and can manage their migration from 1-way broadcast services to feature rich 2-way and interactive services.”
