Now almost 200 million registered domains
by Darren Allan

Verisign’s latest quarterly report on the domain name industry has just been released, revealing that there are now 192 million registered domain names.
The majority of those domains are .com, unsurprisingly, followed by .cn (China), .de (Germany), .net and .uk (yes, we’re at the top too).
11 million names were registered in the final quarter of 2009, which is 8% up on the figure for the third quarter.
Next month marks the 25th anniversary of the .com, with the very first registration of symbolics.com taking place back in 1985.
