STV launches smartphone apps

Having seen its pre tax profits cut by more than half, the broadcaster STV has been looking at different ways of getting its content in front of viewers and one way of being successful is to follow the leaders.

To this end, STV will be launching a series of applications that will allows users of netbooks, smartphones and other mobile devices to access the STV Player catch up service, STV news and STV local information.

The first of these apps will be launched for users of the iPhone.

It is expected to be available from the app store in early March and will be followed with the introduction of the catch service through the STV Player and STV Local, which gives access to around two hundred local sites.

This is expected by the end of March.
