AirTies, the innovative wireless home networking vendor, has today announced a strategic partnership with AcumenLink, to market and distribute its family of gateways and set-top boxes throughout the Americas, to those operators that wish to offer IPTV to their subscribers.
The relationship will also open up new channels for other companies within the IPTV ecosystem, integrators or over-the-top service suppliers for example.
AirTies, high definition, set-top boxes (STB) have wired as well as wireless capability which allows audio and video transmission from the internet gateway over Wi-Fi to the set-top box, whilst eliminating the need for cables.
They offer multicast video from live TV channels, Video-On-Demand and Web applications.
Their large memory and storage capacity available on board means the most demanding and innovative interactive TV features can be delivered to the customer through the standard STB, such as Pause-LiveTV functionality utilizing 2GB NAND flash.
“One of the challenges an Operator faces is the cost of rewiring the home to make ready for IPTV,” said Dean Kashlan, Managing Partner of AcumenLink.
“Up until now, IPTV installations have required total rewiring to take place in the home.
“When you consider that, on average, there are 2.75 televisions per American household, some of which might be in remote locations, wiring just one home can take up to 2 men working four hours.
“AirTies wireless, customer-installable set-top boxes enable the user to set-up their own network, resulting in a $300-$400 per home in savings. Immediately, IPTV becomes a much more attractive business proposition.”
AirTies CEO Bülent Çelebi added: “AcumenLink actively seeks out innovative technologies in the IPTV market which can be used to ultimately make its customers more profitable.
“The wireless, one-touch install functionality of the AirTies set-top box has meant that AcumenLink can offer American operators a viable way to achieve payback with a flexible and successful technology.
“The experience and contacts of those at AcumenLink made it the obvious choice for AirTies as it moves in to the US market.”
