Twitter looks to ad revenue

Twitter’s business model, and more specifically its long-term sustainability, has always been the subject of speculation.

However, it seems that the micro-blogging site is set to make the move into online advertising to generate further revenue.

The blog All Things Digital reported that Twitter is engineering a way to get adverts displayed with search results on the site.

Note that the ads won’t be incorporated into actual feeds, but just search results, in a Google style.

Apparently the adverts will also be limited to 140 characters, in keeping with the site’s central motif for the concise sound-bite.

Although that shouldn’t be a problem for advertisers, as they’re used to working with short and punchy slogans.

These developments are coming fairly soon, according to the grapevine.
