Nokia phone users rejoice, for a free Skype app has been made available down at the Ovi store.
Skype for Symbian will use your 3G or wi-fi connection to hook up for free Skype-to-Skype calls, and will allow you to send instant messages, or indeed pictures or video.
The app will run on any Nokia smartphone which has Symbian^1, in other words around twenty handsets.
Plus it will soon be available on other manufacturer’s Symbian phones, such as Sony Ericsson.
“Symbian enables us to bring smartphones to more and more people and ensures scale for our solutions and compelling services, such as Skype,” commented Jo Harlow, Senior Vice President for Smartphones at Nokia
“We’re seeing around 1.5 million downloads a day on Ovi Store now and believe that the Skype client for Nokia smartphones will have wide appeal to Symbian users.”
