Orbit-Showtime chooses Harmonic for HDTV

Dubai-based pay-TV operator Orbit-Showtime has chosen Harmonic to supply its new digital head-end and playout for its HDTV channels.

Orbit-Showtime is playing out its HDTV using MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) compression, and uses Harmonic’s Electra 8000 multi-channel universal encoder, along with its ProStream 1000 processing platform for bulk scrambling and descrambling.

Harmonic’s local partner GloCom has handled the install, and the deal was announced at Dubai’s CabSat show March 4.
