Could the iPhone 4G be around the corner?

The latest Apple related rumour concerns O2 and the company’s recently updated iPhone tariffs.

A number of sources on the net have picked up on the fact that O2 has added a small detail to its tariffs – namely that they now mention video calls.

This has been seen by some as an indication that the iPhone 4G, complete with video call capability, might be launching in the near future.

However, the video calls are listed at the same cost as voice calls, which must have rung a few alarm bells with some.

Pocket Lint checked the situation with O2, and the site has just reported that O2 is stating that this listing is an error. Although the company says the price is an error – and not the fact that video calls are actually shown on the tariff.

So the core of this particular Apple rumour might still hold true. As ever, time will tell.

Whether or not there’s a new iPhone this year, it certainly won’t be called the 4G. The original iPhone used 2G radio (Edge) data and the second and third generation iPhones use 3G (UMTS/HSDPA). There won’t be any 4G data networks to connect to until at least 2011. The fourth generation iPhone (like the previous 2) will have 3G radio. It will most likely be called the iPhone 3GX (where X is some letter other than S). You should know this stuff!
