Sporting organisations in the UK could be thinking about taking legal action against the media regulator’s plans to force the satellite broadcaster BSkyB to reduce the price it charges for wholesale use of its content.
Ofcom will be announcing its plan this week and it would seem that one way or another it is going to affect sport on TV.
BSkyB will no doubt launch its own legal challenge to any decision made, but it looks as if it may be joined by the Rugby Football Union, the England and Wales Cricket Board, the Professional Golfers’ Association, the Football Association, the Premier League and the Rugby Football League.
While BSkyB is looking after its profits, the sporting organisations are concerned that their incomes will be substantially cut, which would affect how money is invested in the grass roots of the sports.
