The iPhone will be graced with a new version 4 of its operating system, with Apple expected to unveil the OS at a press event on Thursday.
No exact details have been revealed at this stage, although guesswork and rumours are predictably rife.
The major juicy rumour bone is that OS 4 will come with – wait for it – multi-tasking.
In other words, the ability to run multiple applications at the same time, which would indeed be a big change for the smartphone.
Other minor rumours are also circulating – PC Pro, for example, reckons that Apple could roll out a new location-aware mobile ad platform called iAd. (Not I’ve-been-Ad?).
This would give the opportunity to developers to provide more free apps, which could work on advertising supported business models.
The release of the new OS could precede the launch of a new model of the iPhone, which is expected to happen later this year.
