Reports are coming in from various corners of the net that the latest firmware update for the PS3, version 3.21, is causing problems for some console owners who have applied it.
Firmware 3.21 has already been the source of controversy, as it gets rid of the option to install another operating system that older PS3s are graced with.
This move was made because Sony saw the other OS option as a security risk that the company felt had to be dealt with. Even though many customers were aggrieved at its removal.
The worse news for Sony, however, is that 3.21 is allegedly causing all sorts of issues on some consoles.
We’re talking freezing and/or crashing, slowing down online, people being unable to log onto the PlayStation Network, and other assorted problems.
It might be an idea to wait before applying the update, for the time being, to see if Sony has anything to say, or is going to make any adjustments.
I’m not sure if it’s related to the firmware updated, but after I updated it, it wouldn’t let me connect to the playstation network for the rest of the day as it said I was in an unsupported country.
this is playstation treating its customers like microsoft forcing them to do useless updates,did the update add any functionality NO it took away the one of the best quality’s the playstation has , the ability to install another OS ie linux if you decide yes i want to install another OS ,then sorry no connection to playstation network and if you can’t play online with your mates then it becomes useless to the multiplayer gamer and useless to me,did the update solve the ylod (yellow light of death problem ) no that can’t be solved unless you change out the cheap fans playstation used for the cheaper second gen FAT ps3′and add another one.

first friend yellow light of deathed 1 1/2 years later £140 to be sent back to ps3 at owners expense and fixed
second friend froze constantly after 20 mins of gameplay 1 3/4 years after purchase
third friend me lives in fear of his ps3 giving up becasue now its starting to show signs of freezing as well for the past 3 months so now i live in fear !!!

You realise Sony removed OtherOS because of a security hole made famous by GeoHotz, sony were just plugging that hole.
If you want to blame anyone, blame him.
I hate defending huge corporations but come on, companies pay Sony to have their titles on their systems, allowing this and allowing that hack to go farther would piss off the game makers.
PS- Linux was shit on the ps3 anyway, slow, buggy and had no hardware acceleration.
The problem I have with SONY is there OCD like obsession with anti piracey this and anti-piracey that. It hurts the PS3′er & gamer entirely.
Heres an example of this loonacey PSN movies you can I repeat can only download the movie once, play it only on a PS3 you can never play it on any other medium. If you delete it you can not redownload, if your renting, oh my is this a laugh, you can only watch it ONCE.
But heres the clincher for me if you stop the PSN movie you cannot re-watch it, apparently renting a DVD from the PSN network is only for the one viewing. So if you want the true freedom that SONY so happily advertise then just buy the DVD.
LINUX was removed as it was a back door to pirateing bluray thats all. They really are a shoddy company with shoddy ethics towrds their customers.
IF SONY WAS A HUMAN BEING I WOULD HAVE HE/IT SECTIONED under the mental health act.

always been the same with with sony unfortunately; shoddy build quality plus, til the ps3 at least, quantity of games over quality – granted with a few undeniably killer exclusives tho too [kudos to wipeout/2097, tekken, etc.]… the ps3 ain’t even got quantity of games going 4 it @ the mo, an’ still waiting for a date for gt5 – what’s that bout?!
hate to say it – being a mac designer i ain’t no microsoft fanboy miself – but, as fred points out, at least the 360 faults have pretty much been owned up to, and owners offered the extended warranty deal – if you’re aware/eligible/dig deep enough on the net to find the details! :P
i have updated but have had freezing issues before the update and after, i think it may be more of a network issue than anything, as most of the games that have froze on me were online at the time
also i am yet to have a console break on me
