HBO Asia has launched Red, an Asian-movie focused channel, for the first time.

The channel has debuted in Indonesia on PT MNC Indovision.

Red is HBO Asia’s brand new 24-hour, Asian movie channel that premieres the region’s latest Asian blockbuster movies, television series, and features celebrity interviews, entertainment news and much more.

“We are very excited that Red is now available to viewers in Asia with Indovision subscribers in Indonesia being the first to be able to enjoy this brand new Asian movie channel,” said Jonathan Spink, CEO, HBO Asia.

“Red is your home for premium Asian movie entertainment and features movies from China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and other Asian countries in its original language with English and local language subtitles.”

Handhi S Kentjono, Vice President Director MNC Sky Vision (Indovision’s operator), said: “Indovision has continued the long tradition of excellence, being a pioneer in providing distinguished contents to the platform.

“The inclusion of Red, supported by strong partnership with HBO Asia, now enables Indovision to be able to offer a premium quality Asian movie channel as part of our wide entertainment selection.”

HBO Asia has so far offered five commercial-free subscription movie channels – HBO, HBO Signature, HBO Family, HBO Hits and MAX (a refresh of CINEMAX) – as well as a subscription video-on-demand service, HBO On Demand and HBO HD, the first regional movie channel to broadcast in high definition in Asia, in selected markets. Red is HBO Asia’s first Asian movie channel.

HBO Asia is a joint venture of Time Warner’s HBO and Paramount.

Indovision is Indonesia’s largest DTH operator, estimated to have a more than 70% market share in pay-TV households, both satellite and cable.
