Flintshire to launch TV channel

Flintshire County Council will be launching its own digital TV channel by the end of the month, making council business open to a much wider audience than ever before.

The channel will be available to subscribers to Sky TV on satellite and Virgin Media TV on cable, while Freeview viewers will be able to access the channel later in the year.

Initial funding for the channel has come from the Welsh Assembly Government, but after twelve months the council will have to finance the channel from its own funds, although surprisingly the annual cost is estimated at just £15,000 per year.

Flintshire County Council is a bilingual council and therefore all media, including the new digital TV channel, will need to be broadcast in both languages.
