The BBC Trust has finally given the thumbs up to the scheme to offer Freeview and Freesat digital television online.
Towards the end of the 2009, the BBC Trust gave provisional approval and despite complaints from the digital pay TV providers, BSkyB and Virgin Media, Project Canvas is now a go and the wheels will begin to turn.
The on demand service has the provisional name of YouView, which is a combo of Freeview and YouTube.
The main issue for the scheme now is that it has twenty days to publish its initial technical specifications.
The final specifications must be published eight months before the launch of any equipment such as set top boxes or tuners that are built into new televisions.
