Kindle out paces hardbacks

For the first time, ebook content for the Kindle ebook reader at Amazon has overtaken sales of hardback books.

According to the company, at the moment it is selling 143 ebooks for every 100 hardback books and this is a trend that is set to increase, but does this mean that the hardback book is dead?

For Amazon the marketing of the Kindle has taken priority and it has to be said that it has worked, but that does not mean this trend is market-wide as there are plenty of retailers still selling actual books.

Having said that, according to the Association of American Publishers, during the past year the sales of ebooks have increased dramatically, but books are still expected to be around for a number of years to come.
