Faster format for ‘Who Wants To Be a Millionaire?’

Janet Harris

As quiz shows go, Who Wants to be a Millionaire has always been pretty laid back affair but all this is about to change.

Sony Pictures Television (SPT) is trying to inject a bit more excitement into the UK version of the show by giving contestants just 15-seconds to answer the first two questions and 30-seconds to answer the rest up the questions up to £50,000.

With this money safely in the pot, contestants will be able to take a breather and go back to the long-winded pondering of the original version.

With Chris Tarrant usually almost horizontal in his chair while contestants agonise over their questions, it will be interesting to see how he adapts to a more fast paced show.

Other changes include dropping the Fastest Fingers First round and introducing a new lifeline called the Switch, which will allow contestants to swap one question for another when they reach £50,000.
