Darren Childs, BBC Worldwide’s managing director of channels, is tipped as favourite to take over as chief executive of UKTV.
The post has been vacant since David Abraham moved to Channel 4.
Childs’ channel management experience is believed to give him an edge over the other contenders, although there has been speculation that he might not have enough creative experience for the role.
At BBC Worldwide he manages an extensive portfolio of global channels, including BBC America.
BBC Worldwide owns 50% of UKTV, in partnership with Virgin Media, which hinted today that it might consider divesting its interest.
Speaking to MediaGuardian.co.uk, Virgin Media’s chief executive, Neil Berkett, said that UKTV was not a strategic investment and the company might look at selling it to realise value.
UKTV’s portfolio includes Dave, Alibi, Watch, Good Food and Blighty.
